State Grid Wenzhou Power Supply Company Secures Stable Power for Island Residents with 'Centipede Ladders'

On July 28, State Grid Dongtou District Power Supply Branch of Wenzhou completed live adjustment and repair of hardware fittings on the 10-kilovolt Keji J819 Line in Dongtou by deploying insulated "centipede ladders" for live-line work. The operation ensured zero power interruptions for island users and helped the local power grid cope with peak summer electricity demand.

Dongtou is dotted with steep cliffs across its islands, making conventional live-work equipment inaccessible to the site. The insulated centipede ladder adopted for this live defect elimination enabled maintenance without power cuts, safeguarding normal electricity supply for over 600 local households. Fully outfitted with full-body insulated protective gear, live-line workers climbed the centipede ladder step by step to the aerial operation position. They then carried out insulation shielding and binding wire replacement in a well-organized manner. After more than an hour of high-altitude work, the live-line task was successfully finished, delivering maintenance with "zero power outage impact" and a consistent, reliable power supply for residents’ daily lives and production.

Going forward, the company will further advance diversified transformation of live-line operations, strengthen skill training for field staff, and promote new live-work technologies. It will fully leverage the strengths of power-free maintenance to minimize disruptions caused by power outages. Joint supervision by the company’s discipline inspection and audit departments will also be implemented to ensure a stable, cool power supply for island residents throughout the summer.
