Zhejiang Wenzhou: Green Power Supports Bird Conservation Week, Sharing the Ecological Beauty of Island

With birds chirping in harmony and gulls meeting at Dongluo, the 45th Zhejiang "Bird-Loving Week" kicked off on Beiji Island in Ruian City on April 11. The first island bird-watching competition in Zhejiang, held from April 11 to 12, attracted 108 bird-watching teams from all over the country to sign up enthusiastically. Bird-watching enthusiasts from various places gathered on the island, using birdwatching as a platform to appreciate the beauty of ecology, discuss bird protection, and explore the integrated development of culture and tourism.

On the occasion of the National Security Education Day on April 15, State Grid Wenzhou Power Supply Company took active actions by organizing technical staff to the island. With reliable power support and practical public awareness campaigns on bird protection, it fully guaranteed uninterrupted power supply during the bird-watching competition, demonstrating the concept of green development.

Located in the middle section of the East Asian-Australasian Flyway, one of the world's nine major migratory flyways, the Beiji Islands serve as a veritable "stopover site" where more than 260 bird species stop to replenish energy every spring and autumn. Surrounded by the sea, the island boasts an excellent ecology and is known as a "hidden gem in the East China Sea". In recent years, adhering to the development concept of "low intervention, high compatibility", Beiji Island has continuously promoted marine ecological restoration, built a national-level marine ranch demonstration area, continuously optimized the marine ecological environment, and successfully been selected into the fourth batch of national-level beautiful bays. On the day, staff from State Grid Wenzhou Power Supply Company carried out a "comprehensive inspections" on the island's 10kV lines, photovoltaic equipment, observation power facilities and power distribution facilities in the event venues, eliminating various potential safety hazards in a timely manner. Adhering to the concept of "a preventive maintenance approach", it effectively improved the power supply reliability of the island power grid.

Staff from State Grid Wenzhou Power Supply Company also acted as "bird-protection advocates", bringing knowledge of bird protection to islanders and tourists. Combining the practice of zero-carbon microgrids in the reserve, they explained in plain language how clean energy provides reliable power support for bird monitoring and habitat protection, minimizing the human disturbance to migratory birds. The green power system built through the "Green Power Ark" project not only provides digital tools for scientific research and monitoring of birds, but also effectively reduces the disturbance of traditional energy sources to habitats.

From "power workers" to "bird protectors", State Grid Wenzhou Power Supply Company not only provides 24-hour emergency power repair services and renewable energy grid integration services, but also integrates ecological protection into daily operation and maintenance. It accurately plans power line corridors for the wildlife habitats on the island, and realizes real-time monitoring of island power facilities by relying on digital means such as satellite remote sensing and AI-powered video monitoring.
