Longmen Grottoes
Longmen Grottoes, one of the grotto treasures of China, is a National AAAA level scenic spots. It is located on Longmen Mountain and Xiang Mountain enclosing the Yi River to the south of Luoyang City. First sculptured during the Northern Wei Dynasty, it was chiseled on a large scale continuously thereafter for more than 400 years in the dynasties of Eastern Wei, Western Wei, Northern Qi, the Sui and Tang, Five Dynasties Period and the Song. Today, there exist 2,354 grottoes, around 2,800 stone inscriptions, and 100,000-plus Buddhist statues.
