Prominent Luoyang Black Peonies Named 'Ink and Wash' in Full Blossom
Recently, at the International Mudan Garden in Luoyang City, Henan Province, the peonies named "Ink and Wash" bloom with their full charm. Their golden stamens are surrounded by deep purple-red petals that radiate a black hue under the sunlight, like delicate and lustrous silk. Standing out like a masterpiece among the sea of flowers, they showcase a splendid array of colors.
This kind of black peony variety has undergone 20 years of artificial directed cross-breeding at the International Mudan Garden. Its parentage includes the "Heihuakui" and the foreign variety "Lophophora". Known for its vigorous growth and abundant flowering, it boasts round flower buds with deep purple-red filaments, stamens, pistils, floral disks, and stigmas. The large peonies, resembling lotus blooms, are suitable for garden cultivation and as cut flowers.
As a standout among black peonies, "Ink and Wash" was awarded the Gold Prize for New Peony Varieties at the Expo 2019 (an international horticultural exposition). However, its flowering period is relatively short, lasting only about a week. Nevertheless, visitors can catch a glimpse of their beauty at the International Mudan Garden in these few days.
