Fourth National Cultural Relics Census Unveils 68 Newly Discovered Immovable Relics in Luoyang
According to the Luoyang Cultural Heritage Bureau, the on-site investigation for the Fourth National Cultural Relics Census is well underway. Thus far, Luoyang has re-examined 356 existing immovable cultural relics and uncovered 68 newly identified sites.
Luoyang boasts a vast and diverse array of cultural relics, with over 9,000 immovable sites spanning various historical periods. This extensive collection, the largest in the province, accounts for one-seventh of the provincial total. In the nearly 14 years since the last national census, the state of these relics has seen significant changes, and the evolving external environment has posed new challenges and heightened demands for their systematic preservation.
The current census, slated for completion by June 2026, encompasses all immovable cultural relics within Luoyang's jurisdiction. This includes ancient cultural sites, tombs, historic buildings, grotto temples, stone carvings, and sites and structures of significant historical importance from the modern and contemporary periods. In total, the survey covers six major categories and 63 specific types of cultural relics.
