33rd World Hakka Conference Held in Luoyang
On October 24, the 33rd World Hakka Conference opened in Luoyang. After the opening ceremony, a splendid cultural performance themed "Hakka's Homeward Journey" was staged. The performance was divided into a prologue titled "Homeland Feeling" and four chapters namely "Farewell to the Homeland," "Integration into the Strange Land," "Dreaming of the Hometown," and "Return to the Hometown." The stage design featured the phases of the moon to correspond with each chapter: gazing the moon evokes homesickness, the waning crescent brings a sense of melancholy, the new moon signifies new beginnings, the waxing crescent carries hope, and the full moon brings back the reunion. It narrated the touching story of Hakka ancestors who left their hometowns and migrated south, settled in remote lands, missed their homelands, and fulfilled their dreams of reuniting in their hometowns.
Themed "Hakka Ancestral Roots, Shared Splendor in Heluo", this section of the World Hakka Conference emphasizes inclusiveness and prominent representation, while adhering to the principles of welcoming newcomers and younger attendees. Extensive invitations were extended to business people and guests, ultimately attracting over 3,500 participants from more than 50 countries and regions across six continents. During the conference, Luoyang also hosted ancestor worship ceremonies, the Symposium of Heluo Culture, the Second Hakka Youth Development Conference, and other activities about Hakka cultural academic exchanges and economic and trade negotiations.
